Update #5.5: Shipping updates and our new US warehouse secured!

Hello Stargazers!

We’re back with the promised update! We have some good news to share and some updates regarding the expected ship date.

Much of this update is regarding our new US warehouse, so if you’re not in the US, here’s a summary:

The shipment containing orders not destined to the US will be shipped from the factory to our Canadian warehouse today. It will be slightly ahead of the US shipment, but it was affected by some factors caused by the addition of our new US warehouse.

The shipment bound for the US warehouse will ship in the next week or so—we’re just finalizing quotes from our freight forwarder now that everything is in place with our US warehouse.

Two Week Wrap-Up

The last two weeks has been unbearably busy.

We attended the CGLCC Global Business Summit in Toronto and connected with a vital contact that will help us streamline our supply chain.

Last Tuesday Aidan went on a drive from HQ in Guelph to Detroit Michigan for an 8-hour round trip to visit our new US warehouse, ShipTrex!

We’ve built a strong relationship with the ShipTrex team already and are ecstatic to have found a team that shares the same values as we do. The most notable one being: people. The ShipTrex team is a little bigger than the team at our Canadian warehouse, Dr. Ship, but they still feel like an extension of Carmico, and we’re excited to see how our relationship grows with time.

In between all of that, we’ve met with lawyers, freight forwarders, customs brokers, and just about every possible actor in a logistics supply chain to make sure that our transition to the US is as smooth as possible.

So, suffice to say, it’s been a little hectic over here. But all for good reason and all for the sake of moving things along for you guys!

Ready to ship

Full transparency, this process took a little longer than we expected. As mentioned in the previous update, we were fully expecting to have the product on the water last week, but there was a little more legal work involved than we had anticipated. Now that that’s out of the way, it should (literally) be smooth sailing.

As of this morning, the Canadian shipment was at the door ready for pickup at our factory. The US shipment is pending approval from our freight forwarder.

A little explanation for the delay:

We needed to confirm our address for the US shipment before we could request the shipment be split for two separate destinations. We signed the contract for the warehouse on Monday, so we officially have the address ready to go. With that, our suppliers needed some time to split and repack the shipments. The split was completed yesterday morning so the Canadian shipment has been shipped and the US shipment is ready to go as soon as we have confirmation from our US freight forwarder.

In future pre-orders, all of this will be worked out, but we're adapting on the fly for this one as we move to remote operations in the US.

Thank you for your patience as we navigate the unexpected effects of the trade war!

Timeline

Shipping is expected to take about a month once it leaves the port. If we can get it out before the end of June, we’ll have it in time for fulfillment in early August as expected in our original timeline.

Here’s a callback to our launch post for estimated timelines:

  • February 28th - March 14th: Pre-order
  • Late March - Early May: Production
  • Mid May - Mid July: Shipping
  • Early August: Fulfillment
  • Late August: Pre-order Complete!

We always anticipate things to not go as planned which is why, even with the delays, we’re still looking good for fulfillment in early August.

Reminder: US orders vs everyone else

We want to be especially clear to all customers that you will not be affected by tariffs.

Here are some important notes:

  • US orders and inventory will be shipped to, stored, and distributed using our new warehouse in the US.
  • All other orders will be shipped to, stored, and distributed using our current warehouse in Canada.
  • Carmico will be covering the cost of tariffs on US orders for this pre-order, though we may open a tipping option later on to offset costs if anyone wishes to help us out.
  • Absolutely nothing changes from the typical Carmico experience for non-US customers.
  • US customers will now have faster delivery as there is no longer a need for border clearance and everything ships from within the US.

Future updates

We expect to be in the next stage of the timeline by our next scheduled update, so we’ll be back on July 2nd!

If you have any questions regarding this update, please don’t hesitate to reach out to hello@carmico.ca. Aidan will be happy to answer any questions or update your address if you’ve moved. :)

As always, thanks so much for pre-ordering! We’re so excited to get everything to as soon as possible.

Until next time,

The CarmiCrew
